Having understood what the Letter of Consent is and what purposes the a letter of Consent plays in the submission, acquisition and the entire process of obtaining a Nigerian ePassport, it would be highly imperative to discuss and shed some light on who is required or Authorised to write and issue a Letter of Consent for a Nigerian Minor child.
For the purposes of applying for a Nigerian ePassport Application Process, the Father of the Child/minor is expected to issue the Consent Letter.
The Father is also expected to provide a copy of his (valid) Nigerian Passport.
In the case that the Child is in the Legal custody of the Mother, the mother is then required to provide evidence of same, in the form of Court Order, awarding her the Sole and Legal Custody of the Child.
When the mother issues the Letter of Consent, she is required to provide a copy of her Nigerian Passport and other documents as required under the Nigeria Immigration Act.
If the Child is in the Custody of the State, Legal Documentation is required as a proof of same.
Please note that in most cases, an Affidavit from a Lawyer would not be sufficient and would not be used in place of the legal Document or Court Order as legally obtained from a Court of Law.
In all situations, please kindly refer to the website of the Nigerian Embassy or Nigerian High Commission or Consulate in your Country of domicile.
You are also advised to constantly visit the website of the Nigeria Immigration Service for any update on the requirements for the Nigerian ePassport.
If you can get all these documents and sort them as per the Nigerian ePassport checklist for Minors, you would be doing yourself much good, as you would have a stress-free visit.
